NEWS: Whetton Wins; Podium For Coventry’s Roberts

Brandon Whetton won the 2015 Under 16 British Indoor Cycle Speedway championship as Kyle Roberts was hampered by a fall and could only manage third.

In a competitive event, Roberts started the meeting with great intent winning his opening ride. A clearly fired up Roberts was involved in a collision with Lee Kemp in the initial staging of his opening ride; Kemp was excluded and Roberts won the re-run.

A second heat win followed as Roberts fended off the challenge of Sheffield racer Adam Watson, however his championship bid was jeopardised in heat 12 when he fell in a second turn crash. Whilst Roberts dropped points, East Parks Brandon Whetton ran away with the title as he picked up his fourth successive heat win.

Will Tidball, of Exeter, eventually finished second as Roberts picked up a concluding heat victory to confirm his podium finish.

Elsewhere on Saturday Wednesfield’s Ricki Johnson won the British Under 19’s title, beating Stockport’s Jake Read in a run off, whilst Steve Harris regained his veterans title beating Mark Whitehead.
