MATCH REPORT: Dominant Start For Rampant Coventry

Coventry Cycle Speedway put one of their biggest rivals to the sword yesterday afternoon as the club triumphed in a thrilling encounter eventually running out 96-80 winners over East Park.

In what is the clubs first ever success at East Park on their territory, Coventry were once again spearheaded by the young talent of Mason Phillips who scored an impressive 15 points from his five rides. Bobby McMillan and Myke Grimes totalled paid maximums and their was wins also for Daniel Drewett.

Matt Lawrence showed great determination throughout the meeting and, despite a heavy fall in a horrific first bend incident, scored 8+1 for the team. Joe McLaughlin added 7+2 to the cause from his three rides whilst a couple of second places for Jake Slatter boosted his senior team confidence. Warwick based junior Charlie Barnett also rode well returning with a double figure haul.

Though Coventry led the entire meeting there was the odd moment for concern. A 7-3 in favour of East Park in heat 12 brought them within five points of the Devlins Newsagents sponsored side. However Coventry immediately fought back and wrapped up the result in heat 16 when both sides shared a 5-5.

Coventry next face Wednesfield Dragons on April 5th in their second Midland League tie of the season.
