MATCH REPORT: Coventry ‘Devlins Newsagents’ 73-106 Wednesfield Aces

Elite League side Wednesfield Aces proved too strong for Coventry in the Godiva City sides first home Midland League fixture of the season as they went down by 73 points to 106.

The Aces tracked a strong side including multiple British Final members including Paul Heard, Ben Mould, Mark Griffiths and Lee Aris. Coventry managed to hang tough and fought to some gutsy race advantages with wins for Myke Grimes & Bobby McMillan.

Youngsters Daniel Drewett, Mason Phillips and Charlie Barnett also rode well with Matt Lawrence taking a fall in one of his outings – though still scored respectably. Veteran racer Joe McLaughlin prepared for the Eurovets with three outings whilst Tom Sensicall proved the ‘team man’ displaying great signs of team encouragement.

MLD2 – Coventry 69-60 Wednesfield

In the Midland League Division 2 fixture Coventry triumphed to a 69-60 victory with a last heat 7-2 confirming victory for the home side with Ollie Morris proving the man of the hour with a sensational double pass in heat 5 to beat Alex Aris and Glyn Rowley.

The young ‘hot shot’ fount himself caught at the back of the pack with no room for a racing overtake. However, using his already experienced Cycle Speedway head, Morris swept underneath Rowley and forced Aris out wide in the process.

This proved to be the catalyst required to turn the match in Coventry’s favour as they denied Wednesfield any race advantage from there on. Charlie Barnett and Jake Slatter rode well to secure double figure scores as did Shaun Reynolds with Sammie Marsh providing some class entertainment for the strong crowd with an 8 point haul.
