Coventry Well Received at Annual ‘SkyRide’

Over one thousand people turned out for Coventry’s annual SkyRide on Sunday and Coventry Cycle Speedway took the opportunity to promote to the masses.

Joined by the CrewGirls, Coventry Cycle Speedway press officer – and rider – Shaun Reynolds helped distribute hundreds of flyers to cycling enthusiasts within the city’s ring-road and educate many about the unique sport of Cycle Speedway.

Flyers were handed out to parents, grandparents and young children who were advised about the Coventry club’s free to attend ‘club nights’ that take place each Wednesday evening – starting at 5:45pm. Members of the public were astonished by the turnout the club attracted at the recent Team GB vs Australia test match with 70% of people already aware of the club’s existence.

Speaking after the event, Shaun said: “The amount of people that took an interest in our sport was unbelievable. At the start it was a case of letting the public come to us, however by 1pm – after a couple of hours of getting used to the surroundings – we headed straight to the people and handed out hundreds of flyers.

“We targeted the parents and grandparents – if they were interested they often brought their kids to our stall and had a look at the bikes and asked for more information. It really was a great result for the club and hopefully we’ll reap the rewards.”

The Lord Mayor even made an appearance to Coventry’s stall and asked how the club is performing in the Midland League and added that although the Australian team was very nice to meet at a Civic Reception held in August, it was great that Team GB got the better of them!
