COVENTRY CYCLE Speedway boss Lee Marsh praised his riders work ethic during the second half of their latest Elite League fixture against Ipswich, despite losing 110-83.
Following defeats away to Wednesfield and at home to Horspath, Coventry entered Sunday’s meeting on the back of a string of disappointing defeats and were left frustrated following a poor first half display.
The Sabres were on the receiving end of some controversial decisions, much to the frustration of Coventry boss Marsh – though his side showed signs of promise in the second half with a collection of promising race advantages.
Led by skipper Myke Grimes, Coventry were without star Pole Michal Sassek and are still waiting on Australian international Bobby McMillan to return from his homeland – youngsters Daniel Drewett, Adam Watson and Shaun Reynolds received call ups.
Ipswich dominated the early parts of the meeting, earning several back to back maximum heat advantages.
Despite Coventry performing much better in the second half, their efforts proved to not be enough as they slipped to a 27 point defeat.
Post match, manager Marsh said he was pleased with his teams never say never attitude and wants to prove the talent they have when facing Poole in ten days time.
He added: “Our boys showed great fight today, at half time we were all so down – frustrated would be the right word to use.
“However we fought hard for every point in the second half and at one point it did look like we could pull off the comebacks of all comebacks.
“It was great to give our youngsters some track time, they will all benefit from the experience and are coming on well for the future.”
Coventry’s next Elite League match will take place at Hearsall Common on Sunday (July 24) as they welcome Poole for a 2pm start.
